Dr. Josiane Trevisol Leal Joins AI Klebsiella Drug Discovery Project

We are happy to announce that Dr. Josiane Trevisol Leal, a recent graduate from Universidade Federal de São Paulo, has joined our lab as a postdoctoral fellow to work on the project “Translational Approach with AI for Klebsiella Drug Discovery”.

This international initiative—funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation—brings together an interdisciplinary team of researchers from Brazil, Latin America, Portugal and Canada to accelerate the discovery of new antibiotics targeting multidrug-resistant Klebsiella pneumoniae.

The project integrates artificial intelligence (AI), molecular modelling, bioinformatics, and experimental microbiology to identify and validate new therapeutic targets and promising antimicrobial compounds.

Dr. Trevisol Leal will develop genetic and functional validation of compound–target pairs using CRISPR interference (CRISPRi-seq) and other molecular genetics approaches in K. pneumoniae.
